The Sun Method of Tea Bag Use

Sometimes, all it takes is a minor change in the plans or methods employed to create an old beverage favorite to change the taste of the beverage to such a degree that it becomes an entirely unique and special drink as opposed to a rehash of an old favorite. The “Sun Method” of making iced tea is a spin on such an old favorite.

Most people who enjoy tea usually believe that a tea bag is only useful for making hot tea. After all, if one submerges a tea bag into cold water the only result that will occur will be the tea bag floating on top of the glass. The color of the water will stay clear as the temperature will not be enough to make change to water into flavored tea. Ok, not so fast. While this conventional wisdom regarding tea and bags is not entirely inaccurate, the belief that only powdered iced tea mix can make cold tea is not 100% correct.

Anyone who remembers the old Lipton TV commercials of the 1980’s might be familiar with the “Sun Method” of making iced tea. Basically, the commercial detailed that if one were to submerge several bags in a bowl of water and left it out in the sun to soak for several hours, the water would gradually absorb the tea leaves and create a natural version of Iced Tea.

Yes, critics will point out that if one just makes “hot tea” in the normal manner and then put in the ‘fridge, then one can end up with the same results. This is not entirely true are the taste will be quite different, although it will certainly take less time. However, using the sun method of making iced tea with a tea bag collection is a fun and unique spin on traditional tea making.
